Born in Southampton on August 5, 1980, young Wayne Michael Bridge had to shift to the south of Winchester, to the civil parish of Olivers Battery. While playing for Olivers Battery, he was spotted by former footballer turned manager Micky Adams, who advised Southampton to sign him on.
How did Bridge go on to make his millions?
Wayne Bridge made his reserve team debut for the Saints in August 1997 and turned professional in January 1998, making his first team debut on the opening day of the 1998-99 season. In 2000-01, Bridge was voted Southampton Player of the Year.
Bridge clocked 10,160 consecutive minutes of playing time in the Premier League (March 4, 2000 to January 18, 2003; a total of 113 consecutive matches without missing a single minute’s play; a record broken by Frank Lampard). Bridge also made it to the 2003 FA Cup Final with Southampton.

At the end of 2003, Bridge was lured by Chelsea for £7 million, himself reportedly earning $13,000,000 for the transfer. However, he was lent to Fulham in January 2006.
Staying at Chelsea until 2009, Bridge won the Premier League title (2004-05), the FA Cup (2006-07) and the Football League Cup (2006-07) with the Blues.
In January 2009, Bridge signed a four-and-a-half-year transfer deal to Manchester City estimated to be £10 million, earning a reported $15,000,000 in the process. Bridge’s earnings at City are reported to be £4.2 million.
He was then lent to West Ham United in January 2011 until close of season and lent again the following January, this time to Sunderland, and yet again for a third time to Brighton & Hove Albion in July 2012. A one-year deal with Reading in June 2013 was his last. Bridge retired from professional football in 2014.
Regularly playing for the England Under-21 team, Bridge made his national debut in February 2002. He was then selected to play in two FIFA World Cups (2002 and 2006). Earning 36 caps for the national team (2002-2009), Bridge announced his retirement from international football in February 2010.
