Top Ten HNW Wealth Managers
Having entered the world of finance soon after graduating from Cambridge in 1984 with a degree in modern languages, Tim Bailey has seen it all. The portfolio director says a front-row seat for the 1987 crash was instrumental in helping him to develop a set of abilities – and sensibilities – that can be drawn upon to guide clients through today’s financial landscape. ‘I think it’s this experience that has really made me able to counsel my clients,’ he says. ‘Empathy and an ability to understand what worries different clients has really helped build good relationships too.’ Bailey’s career has included spells with some of the most illustrious names in the industry – from Schroders to Merrill Lynch and C Hoare & Co. His current stint at Cazenove, which began in February 2017, is his second, but it also tells a wider story of the industry. It began when the wealth management arm of C Hoare & Co. came under the aegis of Cazenove in 2017, while Cazenove itself was acquired three years earlier by Schroders in a £424 million deal. Having walked the halls of all three firms, Bailey’s experience has allowed him to ensure a smooth transition for clients. ‘We are fortunate that Cazenove Capital has an outstanding financial planning team,’ he adds.
