Top Recommended Tax & Trust Lawyers
‘It’s unbelievably complicated, and that’s a pity,’ says Robert Blower, referring to the knottiness of UK tax law.
However, he’s more than up to the challenge. ‘A colossally good lawyer’, according to peers, and with 30 years’ experience in the industry, he’s skilled in private wealth matters ranging from offshore restructuring and landed estates to heritage property.
He also has niche expertise in advising on Sharia law compliance for Middle Eastern trusts.
‘UK clients tend to be quite international and our international clients have UK interests,’ he observes.
On the subject of privacy, he is succinct: ‘As an economy, we need people to pay their fair share, and that pushes the government towards registers and public information. But as individuals, we need to be aware of our privacy: it’s an ongoing tension.’
In the UK, clients are wary of the London property market because of Brexit. ‘It’s difficult to say whether they’re right to be worried,’ says Blower. ‘I’m personally concerned for London and the strength of our economy. Although we don’t hear about anyone actually packing their suitcases, we do hear about quite serious contingency plans in banks.’
