Freddy Barker has exclusively spoken to Rupert Robinson, who shocked the City by quitting as CEO of Schroders Private Bank last week, in his first post-Schroders interview. Robinson covers taking over Schroders at a chaotic time for the bank, driving the business forward – and why he left.

Robinson on his future:

‘At the ripe old age of 46, I am quite confident there is one more big job inside me,’ he says. ‘It is likely to be a smaller rather than larger organization, however, as that will allow me to play to my strengths.’

And he talks about the problems when he first took over Schroders:

‘It was a period of significant change and high emotion,’ says Robinson. ‘Revenues were under pressure in the face of an economic and capital market downturn and there was too much red ink on the page.’
