Top Ten Tax Accountants
Described by a rival as ‘one of the most prominent figures in the private wealth community’, Paula Higgleton is no ordinary tax adviser. You won’t find many accountants speaking so infectiously about scuba diving in Mexico or their regular pilgrimages to Glastonbury.
The Spear’s award-winner has been at Deloitte since 2001, advising some of the wealthiest families in the world and their family offices, helping them structure their businesses and personal wealth. She also works to ensure her clients are compliant with the tax rules in all jurisdictions where they hold assets.
A busy year preparing for changes to the non-dom regime has prompted many clients to look ‘way beyond’ tax and review their affairs, with succession plans becoming a priority. Higgleton has become increasingly busy ensuring that the next generation is equipped to take on the ‘challenges and responsibilities’ of inheriting wealth.
‘It might be that the founder has very strong views on passing the business on to the eldest child – but it may be that the eldest child doesn’t necessarily have an interest in taking on the business,’ she says. ‘They may have other interests they want to pursue. We’re working with a lot of families to help facilitate that conversation.’
