British-born Cypriot footballer who currently plays for Welling United, Love Island hunk, ‘muggy’ Mike Thalassitis’ net worth is under review
Of Cypriot descent, Michael Thalassitis was born in Edmonton, England, on January 19, 1993. Starting his footballing career with Stevenage through its youth system before the 2010-2011 season, Mike Thalassitis went on to secure a two-year professional contract after the club was promoted to the football league (the first professional footballer for Stevenage), in May 2011, because of his 17 goals in 26 games for the first season of Stevenage’s Under-18 side.
In October 2011, he was lent to Conference South side Boreham Wood for a month. He made it on the score sheet the very next day he signed up, beating Dartford 3–1. Thalassitis played five times for Boreham, as the club recorded five consecutive wins—skyrocketing them to eighth place from 20th. With his loan extended by another month, Thalassitis maintained the same tempo by scoring a hat-trick against Dover Athletic (4–2 win).
He returned to Stevenage in January 2012 after five goals (12 games) at Boreham, but was once again lent out on a one-month deal, in February 2012, to Conference National side Hayes & Yeading United. Thalassitis was recalled by his home club in March 2012 after three goals (five games) for Hayes.
His first appearance wearing a Stevenage jersey was in the League Cup as a substitute against AFC Wimbledon (a 3–1 win)—Stevenage’s first game of season 2012-13. Thalassitis’ first goal for his home club came in the next round of the competition, a 4–1 loss to Premier League club Southampton, in August 2012. After signing a three-year contract extension with Stevenage, in September, Thalassitis was yet again given out on a one-month loan to another Conference National side Cambridge United.
He was lent for a fourth time, in November 2012, to Conference South side Bishop’s Stortford for one month, which was later extended to January 2013. Upon his return to Stevenage, Thalassitis was immediately lent to Boreham Wood. His second spell at Boreham produced seven goals (19 games), with the end of the season seeing him return to Stevenage.
Next, Thalassitis was lent to Conference South side Ebbsfleet United for the whole of season 2013-14. He was released by Stevenage in May 2014.
Subsequently, he went on to play for Bishop’s Stortford (2014 season), Chelmsford City (October 2015), Concord Rangers (January 2016), St Albans City (January 2016), Margate (May 2016), Hemel Hempstead Town (October 2016) and Welling United (February 2017).
Thalassitis also played international matches for the Cyprus Under-19 side, in 2012. He was also selected for the Cyprus senior side in May 2014, but could not play due to a ruptured knee ligament.
From June 5-July 24, 2017, he appeared on the third series of Love Island, ITV’s British dating reality show. Joining the villa on June 15, 2017, Thalassitis caused quite a commotion among the inmates by dating four other contestants on his first day, and then coupled up with Olivia Attwood. Others on the show included Jonny Mitchell.
Mike Thalassitis’ net worth is set to rise as he is planned to appear on the fourth series of E4’s Celebs Go Dating, in 2018. Other stars in the line-up include Gemma Collins, Jade Jones, Ollie Locke and Tallia Storm.
