It’s been another busy year for Mark Buzzoni and his heavy-hitting tax practice, fuelled by a surge in planning demand and changes to domicile rules – changes that certainly haven’t hurt Taylor Wessing’s healthy revenue stream.

‘I think our tax system is too complex, and I would love to see it simplified,’ he says, also describing the non-dom rules as ‘super-complicated’. He doesn’t expect sensible measures any time soon, but he is clear on the solution.
‘Look at Italy – it’s introduced its own non-dom regime to compete with the UK, and it’s
very simple. You pay your annual tariff, and there’s no complicated remittance rules or anything like that.
‘If Philip Hammond wanted to attract wealthy people from abroad, he could do worse than looking at that and sweeping away a lot of the complexity.’
The father of three, who joined Taylor Wessing as a partner back in 2000, is refreshed after a recent well-earned family break in the Galapagos.
