He returned to London in 2005 to enroll himself in the Central School of Speech and Drama, from which he graduated in 2008. During 2008-2009, Harington got the opportunity to play Albert in the National Theatre production of War Horse, which made him a noted figure among upcoming actors by winning two Olivier Awards.
Harington was soon selected to portray Jon Snow, his first character for TV in the award-winning series Game of Thrones (2011-present)—in its sixth season running. His brilliant portrayal of Snow garnered him a nomination for the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor on Television in 2012 and won him an Empire Hero Award (which he shared with the cast) in 2015.
He soon debuted in films with the 3D Silent Hill: Revelation (2012), which is a sequel to the film Silent Hill and based on the video game Silent Hill 3. Subsequently, at the 2013 Young Hollywood Awards, Harington was presented with Actor of the Year.
In 2014, Harrington got to play his first lead film role in Pompeii, as Milo ‘the Celt’ following which he lent voice to Eret in the Golden Globe Award winner for Best Animated Feature Film How to Train Your Dragon 2, which was also nominated for the Oscars that year. He starred in two more films—the adventure-fantasy film Seventh Son alongside Jeff Bridges and Alicia Vikander, and Testament of Youth (2014) alongside Alicia Vikander and Emily Watson—the same year.
After starring in the HBO comedy mockumentary on tennis called 7 Days in Hell (2015), the British spy movie Spooks: The Greater Good (2015) and voicing Jon Snow again in the Game of Thrones video game (2015), Harington’s upcoming films for 2016 are Brimstone (a western), and The Death and Life of John F. Donovan. Incidentally, he also played the role of Doctor Faustus at the Duke of York’s Theatre in 2016.
