The band grew in popularity and came in third place on The X Factor. Shortly afterwards it was announced that they had been signed by Cowell to a reported £2 million Syco Records contract.
After completing The X Factor Live Tour in 2011, the group released their debut album, Up All Night. One Direction embarked on their second tour in February 2013. In Australia and New Zealand alone, tickets grossed $15.7million.
In 2013 One Direction: This Is Us, a 3D documentary and concert movie was released featuring the single Best Song Ever. The film was a box office hit, grossing $60million worldwide, becoming the fourth highest grossing concert movie.
The third studio album - Midnight Memories - was released during November 2013. It reached number one in over ninety countries worldwide.
Styles and his band mates regularly donate towards charitable causes. In 2013 One Direction released a cover version of One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks) as the 2013 Comic Relief single. They also travelled to Ghana to volunteer at a children's hospital.
During the same year the band announced a partnership with Office Depot where they created a limited edition capsule collection of back to school supplies. They also confirmed that a portion of the proceeds would go towards an anti-bullying educational programme. The campaign raised over £1million.
Styles and his band mates announced that they plan to donate £200,000 of their first stadium tour - Where We Are - to the Stand Up to Cancer charity.
