‘Increasingly, the answer to a client’s question is not written in a textbook,’ says Filippo Noseda, a partner in the Mishcon Private team. ‘More than ever, families need strategic advice – for example, European families faced with the fallout of Brexit, or Middle Eastern families faced with systematic instability in their region.’
Noseda focuses on international tax, governance, succession and matrimonial property issues. He frequently establishes or restructures trusts and philanthropic foundations. He says of recent upheavals to the UK tax rules: ‘The implementation of the changes was delayed by the general election. This resulted in poorly drafted legislation that is creating a lot of complex issues for a number of families, many of whom are considering relocating.’
One career moment stands out: his flight to meet a client at the Dead Sea (on the Jordanian side) was redirected to Lebanon. Then the connecting flight was cancelled. He travelled through Syria, by night, to reach Jordan: ‘That was a few months before Syria descended into chaos.’
Dual-qualified in England and Switzerland as well as the BVI, Noseda converses with clients in his native Italian, as well as German, Swiss-German and French. When not writing articles in his spare time, he also teaches at King’s College London and chairs conferences abroad.
