Does it really matter if the art wasn’t what it purported to be?
Give the people what they want. As long as they paid their millions, they were happy to hang; does it really matter if the art wasn’t what it purported to be?
To think how many fakes are matriculated into the system, all stickered-up with evidence of museum, auction house and gallery provenances boggles the mind. Oh, oh, oh, I love your Campendonk.
There are no losers when it comes to fake paintings or orgasms. The forger/faker gets the benefit of a satisfied customer and that much less to worry herself about (a man is incapable of faking something that comes too easily), and the opposing party gets the self-satisfaction of a hunter after a kill.
