Top Ten HNW Wealth Managers
‘Ebullient and convivial’ according to an industry peer, Charles Marment has been at Charles Stanley his entire wealth management career. A multidecorated major, he came to the firm after a distinguished career in the Honourable Artillery Company.
Marment, who operates very much below the radar, has one of the largest and longest-standing client books on the London wealth management scene. He works alongside Freddy Barker, another stand-out figure at Charles Stanley, which melds old-school charm with an understanding of how the industry needs to change.
Today a leading investment management company with 866 staff across 21 branches, Charles Stanley started out as a bank in Sheffield in 1792 and has evolved and adapted to stay on top ever since. Indeed, it has undergone a revamp since CEO Paul Abberley joined in 2014. Known for his independence of thought, Abberley went in all guns blazing, unafraid to put his own mark on operations, allowing, for instance, his relationship managers autonomy over their portfolios.
Results have been staggering, with funds under management and advice (FUMA) up 8 per cent year-on-year to £24.3 billion, and core business revenue up 9.8 per cent to £74 million.
