By Suren Prasad

Aston Merrygold is estimated to be worth £6 million. He was born in Peterborough on February 13, 1988.

In 2002, he came second in ITV’s talent show Stars in Their Eyes dressed as Michael Jackson

Merrygold left school in 2004 to join TV host Laura Hamilton in ITV’s children’s show Fun Song Factory. He moved to London and during auditions befriended Marvin Humes who urged him to join his band UFO along with him. The band was later renamed JLS (Jack the Lad Swing).

How did Merrygold make his millions?

In 2008, JLS competed in The X Factor‘s fifth series, where they stood runners-up behind Alexandra Burke.

A deal with Epic Records in 2009 resulted in JLS’ first two chartbusting singles “Beat Again” and “Everybody in Love”. With their eponymous first album selling over a million copies in Britain, JLS won Best Newcomer and “Beat Again” won Best song at the MOBO Awards.

At the 2010 BRIT Awards, “Beat Again” won British Single and JLS won British Breakthrough apart from MOBOs for Best Album and Best UK Act.

In 2010, a deal with Jive Records saw three more UK chartbusters: “The Club Is Alive”, “Love You More” (official single for Children in Need) and “She Makes Me Wanna”.

Before splitting in December 2013, JLS released their book Forever and a Day, One Last Goodbye X and went on a UK arena tour “Goodbye The Greatest Hits Tour” in April. JLS have four albums plus five number one singles, four top 10s and over 10 million records sold worldwide. Each member is worth about £6 million.

Merrygold then went on to judge the fourth series of Got to Dance, Sky1’s talent show in 2013.

In September 2014, Merrygold signed with Warner Bros Records to release his debut solo album A Second Again.

With JLS, Merrygold had endorsements with Nintendo’s Wii Party, Durex and Walkers crisps, and also appeared for Coca-Cola TV ads.

The band established The JLS Foundation in 2010 which is still active, collecting charity for Brook, Cancer Research UK, Childline, Rays of Sunshine, BeatBullying and the MS Society. Since 2010, Merrygold himself has been a patron of Children in Need.

Overall, out of five charity singles sung by JLS, four reached top spot on the UK singles chart.

Merrygold owns an Audi R8 blue sports car worth £99,000 and a £152,000 Ferrari
