Spear's Wealth Management Awards 2012: Nominations Announced

Tuesday, 30th October 2012

The nominations for the Spear's Wealth Management Awards 2012 have been announced. The awards, taking place on 30 October at Phillips de Pury, Victoria, once again celebrate high net worth individuals and wealth managers for their successes, innovations and acumen, in the year 1 August 2011 to 31 July 2012

The awards, called the 'Oscars ceremony for London's movers and shakers', is in its sixth year and has long been recognising the best private bankers, wealth managers, lawyers and private client advisers. The judging panels consist of CEOs, QCs and principals of the country's top private client firms and has an unrivalled authority.

Nominations will open in June 2012. We value the opinions of readers of Spear’s and hope you will express your views by nominating those people and companies you believe are deserving of recognition for their accomplishments.

Q

In this new anti-tax-avoidance era, when so many tax reliefs have been withdrawn, I've heard that investing in a Business Property Renovation Allowance scheme is one of the few remaining good opportunities for maxing your tax position. Is it true that you can get up to 100 per cent tax relief on the amount invested? And what exactly are these schemes? How do they work? What are the upsides? Downsides?

A

In this climate, it is a relief to see one potentially attractive tax allowance come through unscathed from recent criticism
