Nick Jenkins net worth

By Suren Prasad

Founder of online greeting card company Moonpig and new judge on Dragons’ Den, Nick Jenkins net worth is estimated to £150 million.

In 1999, Nick Jenkins founded his personalised greeting card website Moonpig.

Based in London and Guernsey, the company became a household name in 2003, gathering more than 4 million customers.

Moonpig captured 90% of Britain’s online greeting card business in 2007, shipping almost six million cards. The following year, showing pre-tax profits of £6.7 million, it doubled its turnover to a little below £21 million. In 2009, the greeting card industry as a whole was estimated to be worth £1.5 billion.

Succeeding a TV ad campaign, Moonpig became one of the UK’s fastest-growing firms after 11 years in the business. In 2011, it had a workforce of 100 people selling 12 million cards per year and was ranked third in the Sunday Times Profit Track 100. Moonpig was then purchased by online company Photobox for £120 million. Jenkins’ 35% stake resulted in the Moonpig founder benefiting from a multi-million pound windfall, after which he renounced all association with the business.

Post-Moonpig, Jenkins has kept himself busy with several angel investments as well as different charities such as the educational charity Ark, where he’s one of the trustees, and Shivia, a charity in West Bengal, India that helps poor families.

Since 2008, Jenkins has been involved in other start-ups as well, especially Web retail and technology. He is a committee member of the investment fund company Impact Ventures UK, which seeks better solutions regarding social problems in Britain.

He is one of the new entrants to BBC’s Dragons’ Den, along with Sarah Willingham and Touker Suleyman, and joins old ‘dragons’ Deborah Meaden and Peter Jones. The 13th series of the hit show is set to begin later this year.
