Author: Peter Matthews

American actress Meryl Streep’s net worth is a reported £31 million.

As per recent figures released by WealthInsight, Streep earns around $1.3 million per year. Her first substantial big pay day was $3 million for the film Out of Africa. For her 1992 film, Death Becomes Her, Streep the earned $4 million. In 2008, she made $5 million profit with The Devil Wears Prada and $8 million for romantic comedy, It’s Complicated.

The Bridges of Madison County, released in 1995, became a monster hit that fetched $70 million in box office collections. Streep was gradually becoming one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood. She even got an opportunity to work with the legendary Steven Spielberg on Artificial Intelligence.

Born in June 1949, Meryl Streep’s journey into the arts — and ultimately the movie business — was not an unexpected one. After completing a BA in Drama at Vassar College and an M.F.A. from the Yale School of Drama, Streep appeared in several theatre productions in New York both on and off Broadway. Shortly afterwards, she successfully managed to bag a role in her first movie — Julia — released in 1977.

Streep soon received an offer to appear in a key role in 1978 television series, Holocaust, which shed light on this period of history by telling the story of two fictional families from Germany. The series was a major launchpad for Streep, winning eight Emmy awards including ‘Best Limited Series’ and two Golden Globes.

Her first movie as a female lead was The French Lieutenant’s Woman, released in 1981. In 1983, Streep achieved a blockbuster hit with Silkwood.

Streep has appeared in an impressively long list of memorable and critically acclaimed films throughout her career including The Deer Hunter, Manhattan, Out of Africa, Kramer vs Kramer, which earned her first Oscar, and Sophie’s Choice, for which she won her second Oscar for Best Actress.

Streep has won three Oscars out of a whopping seventeen nominations, six Golden Globes, two Emmy Awards and endless other industry recognitions. She has also taken on less hard hitting and more light-hearted roles in movies such as Falling in Love (1984), Plenty (1986), and The Devil Wears Prada (2006), to name a few.

The iconic actress has portrayed many high profile real-life personalities throughout her career, including Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton, Margaret Thatcher, and Karen Silkwood, bringing her considerable acclaim and — by proxy — enormous fortune. She is known for her mastery of accents that include Polish, Danish, and Australian among others.

Streep last appeared onscreen in the movie August: Osage County. Her other films scheduled to be released in 2014 are at post-production stage.

Meryl Streep is married to Don Gummer with whom she has four children. She resides in Connecticut and has homes in New York and Los Angeles.
