Boris Andrianov performs on Romanov cello

Southbank Centre

Returning to London after his sold-out Cello Olympics project in 2012, one of the world’s top cellists, Boris Andrianov, will be performing on the unique Domenico Montagnana cello from the Russian State Collection of Unique Musical Instruments, which used to belong to Prince Mikhail Romanov, brother of the Russian Tsar Alexander I.

We would be delighted to see you and your friends be a part of this historic event, as these are unique compositions, a result of a direct collaboration with Irina Shostakovich, the widow of the most important composer of the 20th century.

The evening on 10 September will feature a world premiere marked by the launch of a CD capturing soundscapes from the turn of the century through to the experimental avant-garde years. This highly anticipated version of Shostakovich and Rachmaninoff’s masterpieces arranged for cello and piano by Rem Urasin, and presented by Boris Andrianov, is marked with the seal of true genius.

A journey through Russia’s Silver Age and avant-garde years, Boris together with his star friends Rem Urasin and Roman Mints will present a selection of compositions by Rachmaninoff and Shostakovich in a rare London recital containing a programme of sublime beauty and exceptional soundscapes.

This unique collection of rare and beloved compositions tell many stories: enigmatic, brilliant, exhilarating, poetic, ecstatic, sad or magical: each is a masterpiece by two musical giants of the 20th century: Sergei Rachmaninoff and Dmitry Shostakovich.

The evening will be full of surprises with a pre-concert event and drinks at 6.30pm in which the audience is invited to view an early screening of fragments from Dziga Vertov’s 1929 cinematic masterpiece ‘Man with a Movie Camera’. A CD signing session and dinner with the musicians will follow the concert.

This is ‘miraculous music-making’ as Medici TV claimed: seize this rare opportunity in London to share the company of these brilliant artists in a musical adventure to remember for a long time to come.
